Ayutthaya, situated in the central part of Thailand, is 75 kilometres on route , 72 kilometres by rail and 137 kilometres by boat from Bangkok. Its area is about 2,556.64 kilometres2 or 1,597,900 rai. It is considered the 62nd biggest province of Thailand and 11th of the central provinces.

Ayutthaya boundary reaches Angthong and Lopburi to the north , Nakhon Prathom Nonthaburi and Pathumthani to the south , Saraburi to the east and Suphanburi to the west.

The majority of Ayutthaya’s landscape is a flooded plain which consists of a lot of rice fields without mountains and forests. It is a city island surrounded by four rivers: the Chao Phraya, the Pa Sak, the Lopburi and the Noi, which are altogether 200 kilometres long. These four rivers are linked by about 860 small and big canals.

Ayutthaya is officially divided into 16 districts, 209 sub districts, 1,417 villages.

Tradition and culture of Ayutthaya are typical in the central part, for example: folk arts and crafts with 529 ancient places, 2 national museums, 4 cultural centers, 1 historical park and 1 historical study center. This results in important cultural sources and tourist attractions in the upper central part.
